Beer Can Chicken is a kiwi classic - used to create a tender juicy chicken! Start the oven up and aim for 175°C.
Several hours prior open a can of beer and drink half
Check the chicken over, marking sure that the inside of the chicken is clear
Add your favourite rub to the outside of the chicken or just sprinkle with pepper, salt and a herb / paprika to your liking.
The half can of beer should be at room temperature, place the chicken over the open can so that it is balanced upright.
Place the chicken in the Kiwi Outdoor Oven
Cook for 1 hour before checking, then check every 15-20 minutes until the juice runs clear or when the meat thermometer reads approx 70 degree Celsius in the thickest part of the thigh.
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven keeping it balanced upright. Rest for 10 minutes.
Carefully lift the chicken off the can (our standard method is stabbing the chicken with a carving fork and lifting it off), any liquid will be hot.
